Welcome to WCS Friends of Music
Extraordinary and excellent music lies at the very heart of Wells Cathedral School. The Friends of Music is a way for you to become part of it.
It was set up as an independent body, registered as a charity to support, through attendance at concerts and other events, as well as raise funds for the talented young people who study and play music at the School.
How it works
The Friends of Music is run by a committee elected from the membership. An annual subscription ensures that there are funds which, after minimal administration expenses are deducted, is all directed to musical causes.
The Friends provide support in the maintenance of the fabric and life of the Music School as well as enhancing the musical life of the pupils. Ambitious projects, involving additional fundraising activities and donations, include the purchase of a concert grand piano and equipment for Cedars Hall.
Grants are more routinely awarded for items which add to the authenticity of the musical experience for the pupils at the School but may be beyond the reach of individuals or departments. Good examples include those seldom used but vital extensions to orchestral families or sections, such as the cor anglais, bass clarinet or concert harp. More modest purchases include new piano stools, music stands and sheet music.
Friends of Music receive advance information about concerts and masterclasses and get discounted ticket prices. Friends are sent invitations to additional free events, live streams, recordings, performances, or pre-concert or post-concert refreshments. Plus regular communications, updates, and school news.
Fundamentally the Friends of Music is a channel for philanthropy and donations. If nothing else you will know that you are making an investment for the future of the pupils and music making in the School.
Wells provides a home for some of the finest young musicians in the country.
Whether you’re a current parent, a former parent, or a music enthusiast join our community of Friends, and help us build a musical future.
