OWs gather in Cornwall

INAUGURAL REUNION OF OLD WELLENSIANS - CORNWALL & DEVON - 19TH September 2026

A party of 9 dedicated to keep strong the flame of Wells Cathedral School gathered at Nicky Pickles' retirement home overlooking the beach and headland in Polzeath. Despite the grey weather and occasional mizzle a garden walk was enjoyed by all, the garden being in the National Garden Scheme with some unusual features. Fresh coffee and tea was enjoyed amidst some anecdotes being shared of adventures and amusing stories about everyone's time at the school.

We enjoyed the company of John (Former Headmaster 1986-2000) and Priscilla Baxter, who shared some of their fond memories and experiences during their time at Wells, including John's instrumental involvement in the Cedars Hall campaign and the Eavis Hall.  A buffet lunch, all fresh and home made, kindly prepared by Nicky was much enjoyed by all.

Reflecting on the day, everyone was delighted to have attended and all agreed we would have another meet-up next year when the weather was better to allow nearby cliff and beach walks to be undertaken to round off the trip and experience. School friends of everyone at this reunion and others would be encouraged to come next year. The highest compliment must be given to Jane (1976) and Mike Fear who travelled all the way from Wells to attend this reunion. Well done and thank you to all who came
