Pupils and staff gathered on Tuesday to celebrate visiting Oboe teacher Liz Fyfe’s 28 years at Wells as she prepares to move on to develop her freelance work outside of Wells. Liz has been an outstanding teacher of oboe who demonstrates care, experience and commitment towards her pupils and she has been a role model for other visiting staff. Her expertise and experience are renowned across the U.K. and she has mentored a long line of hugely successful double reed pupils over the years. It is not an understatement to say that Liz has had a significant impact on the overall U.K. oboe teaching and playing scene. We wish Liz well as she embarks on various oboe based projects and look forward to welcoming her back as a guest.
Alongside current pupils and colleagues, we were delighted to be joined by Old Wellensians Fergus McCready (OW 2018),Principal oboe of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Ella York (OW 2018), recently working with the Finnish Opera and Ballet among other freelance roles, Poppy Webb-Taylor (OW 2017) busy London freelance oboist who studied in Cologne, and Daisy Middleton (OW 2023), recent graduate of Oxford University, reading music.
