A Wellensian Reunion for the Class of 1969

Alumni News

Saturday 17th January dawned quietly in the back roads of North Somerset, nearly within earshot of the magnificent bells of Wells Cathedral. The weather for once was benign.
Three other house guests and myself were somewhat dismayed to find our wonderful hosts, Chris and Judith Stott, had already prepared a massive array of food so we had to be content with just a bit of furniture shifting.

The large table was slowly starting to groan with magnificent plates of food, with a stack of desserts having to be held back along with a board full of some very interesting cheeses, a veritable feast. All that remained were the guests who started to appear; this very close-knit leavers of the year of ‘69. The large conservatory was soon occupied by 20 Old Boys and wives; the boys slightly greyer than last year. The anecdotes and conversation flowed almost as rapidly as the various drinks on offer, tho’ just as well not the apple wine/scrumpy combo enjoyed by some luckily invited to Sunday lunches with the Stotts back in yesteryears.

There were many highlights of the day, passing all too quickly; the top being the Celebration of the golden wedding anniversary of Andrew and Sally Bright which was toasted after some very witty comments were made by Andrew’s best man Roger Parson, a consummate speaker. All our grateful thanks to the very generous hospitality of Chris and Judith who have hosted this event for the past 10 years or more.
