Our OW Bristol Social and UniMeet brought together a wonderfully lively group at the Riverstation in Bristol. The waterside setting created a relaxed atmosphere, with plenty of conversation and a few old friendships picked up right where they left off.
It was a pleasure to welcome the Head Master, Alastair Tighe, who enjoyed catching up with some familiar faces and meeting new ones too. We were also joined by Chris Seaton, Chair of the Foundation, whose support for our events is greatly appreciated. As the School’s Director of Development and Head of Foundation, I thoroughly enjoyed meeting more OWs and hearing the stories that links OWs across so many decades.
As always, the range of ages added real depth to the evening. Ashton, who left Wells in 1961, joined Olivia and Ben from the Class of 2022, with several decades represented in between. Pollie and Chris were reunited for the first time since 1992, which set off a great run of shared memories and plenty of laughter.
The conversations flowed throughout the evening, helped along by the Riverstation’s excellent cheese board. There were reflections on teachers who made an impact, as well as the kind of stories that only tend to be told once people have left the School. Helen Gray, Head of Chemistry and Assistant Head of Sixth Form (Lower Sixth), enjoyed hearing tales of memorable experiments and the moments that happened beyond the lab.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. We look forward to next year’s gathering and hope to see even more OWs from Bristol, Bath and the surrounding area.
