In the run up to the Christmas break, Old Wellensian geologist Guy Hatcher gave an online lecture to Upper Sixth geologists.
After finishing at Wells in 2006 Guy completed a BSc and MA in Geology at the University of Leeds before pursuing a career in geology. He has spent much of his career in Africa, initially in Ghana, before moving to the Democratic Republic of Congo and then to Zambia as an exploration geologist searching for and extracting copper deposits.
In his lecture to pupils he explained the formation of these ore deposits and made links to the A Level syllabus, providing inspiration for the next generation of Wells geologists!
Guy’s current project is an exciting venture with his own company, Green Lithium, whose vision is to open the first Lithium refinery in Europe and support the ‘net-zero’ ambition to transition towards being a green economy.
